I don't have 2'' or 2 5'' of steering wheel travel but maybe 1'' to 1 5'' and my guess is under the right conditions I'm feeling the worn out gears in the gearbox I just had my tires rotated 3000 miles ago but I'm going to have them rotated again before I buy a new gearbox

Finished my flush, but now it won't shift to reverse unless i shift all the way to drive first I thought it might be the hard shifting lever (i think something is up with the linkage), so i shifted to neutral, then reverse, but no success

Most likely someone over tightened the screw on top of the gearbox in an attempt to remove steering slop If it's adjusted to tight, the wheel will not return to center

The lines going back into the steering gear were a little bit of a pain, I recommend removing the line mounting hardware from cross-member prior to installing lines into gear
