The QR code being scanned is not unique It merely points to carrier's eSIM activation website Once the phone goes to this website, phone submits IMEI to website, website uses IMEI to find the order and sends actual eSIM to phone Apparently AT T prepaid does not do this as it didn't ask for my BYOD IMEI during the ordering process

it looks like at t sells eSIM prepaid activation cards I would assume you could convert your physical SIM to an eSIM on your current phone, and then when you get the 15, it should transfer and activate like any other normal eSIM

Text the AT T Prepaid Support SMS line (75421) and request a eSIM move Took 2 minutes for a reply You may need to try a few times though because I’m sure their support is pretty tied up You give them your number, pin, IMEI and EID of the new iPhone 14 whatever Turn off phone for 2 minutes and it showed up just fine
