The SCSW says 1984-1988 I have never owned a 639 however I do own a 439 (nickel) and have previously owned a 39-2 and a 3953 I too principally identify with revolvers and typically lean toward DAO or safe-action pistols rather than the DA SA type Having said that the 39 style wears well with me While I find the later very flat backstraps less than desireable, the arched style of the 39

The 639 (Stainless) ran from 1984-88 From my catalog it looks like the serial number you listed is in the 1982-83 range which doesn't match the production dates of the 639 pistol Oftentimes serial number don't match the published year data There are numerous instances where ther numbers don't match The 539 (Blued) ran from 1980-83 and that would match the correct serial range Yours is
