I switched to MetroPCS a few months ago from Sprint based services that offered around 2 5gb to 10gb I also considered Cricket during their 20gb special offer I am SO glad that I chose a T-Mobile based option (MetroPCS) with unlimited data I normally use about 8-12gb per month It was HELL

Apparently it only works one way - you need to get a Metro PCS phone unlocked for T-Mobile but not vice versa Getting a T-Mobile phone unlocked while using it on Metro is a different story, evidently Even though they're part of the same company, they aren't the same service, so the unlocking requirements haven't technically been fulfilled

You could let the service die due to non-payment, and wait 30 days afterwards to activate the phones under your account Or, if you know someone at a metropcs store, or be super nice and explain what's going on, and figure out the zip code on file, there is a chance that they'll send the security question answer to your phone

Has anyone actually tried this? Getting a MetroPCS phone, unlocking it, and putting in on Cricket? Seems possible but I've just never heard of or even found through Google searches someone who has actually done explicitly this

For metro pcs to unlock it it requires 90 days of service, but, you can get it unlocked from numerous 3rd party resellers for around 15-30 bucks TMobile and metro phones don't use a code to unlock, they are done through an unlock app as you said and the company that unlocks it has to manually add the imei to the approved database, that's why

A caveat is that the phone is still locked to T-Mobile What if you need to have it unlocked? I read the unlocking policies of both T-Mobile and MetroPCS and it seems both will refuse to unlock it, T-Mobile because it needs to be activated on their network for at least 40 days, MetroPCS because the phone is not one of theirs

Of course the T-mobile phone needs to be unlocked to work on Metro, for some reason, but that's the way they have it set up When purchasing a non-carrier specific unlocked phone, as long as it works on T-mobile MetroPCS, it will work in Canada and Mexico
