That was $12 (Sr discount of $2 00 nite) vs $35 about a year ago if I recall From Pismo, you would go North on 101, then pick up 1 at San Luis Obispo -- up thru Morro Bay to the Hearst Castle Good easy road all the way BTW, the Castle is incredible -- and an example of what one can do when money is not an object

Hearst castle is another wonderful tourist spot From there you can even head back on I80 northern route to get some variety Not to dis the northern states but there is a lot of flat "not so much" between Salt Lake and Chicago - LOL

If you are just trying to get through NH any of the routes will work but you will be missing some wonderful sights like Castle in the Clouds in Moultonboro and Mount Washington (the Cog Railway to the summit is fun) If you have children, Santa's Village in Jefferson (I think that's the town) is also fun for the kids
