Either way, you SHOULD convert to a 3G alternator instead of the 2G that came on both of those It's a very minor wiring mod, but it's worth it, especially if you install a 130A version Follow the links in this caption for more info:

So i discovered I did indeed have a 2g alternator Its a good thing i changed it because the plug looked burnt up and I'm guessing i was eventually on my way to a fire I started pricing out alternators and even considered rebuilding one Going to a junkyard is tough in NJ because you cant pull the parts yourself for insurance reasons

Crossing the jumper cables usually damages the alternator, and that 2G is already known to be a dangerous design It won't affect how the engine runs (or not), but I suggest you disconnect its wiring, and start reading up how easy it is to swap in a '93-96 3G

I think what I will do is save up for the KB and get that one just because its 2G's less and is only about 20hp less then the Whipple also Either way is one of my top mods to do to this truck 2005 Loaded F150 FX4

'87-91 use a 2G alternator with an internal VR Upgrading to the 3G 130A is easy and highly recommended 2Gs have a habit of catching fire, and they were never that good to begin with

If you drive it in someplace to have it the work done, and pick it up when they call you to say it's done, it will be 2grand minimum The modular motors are even more expensive So plan on having a lot of money to pay out It was gonna run about 2g for my 302 to be pulled, rebuilt and reinstalled Nothing like a fresh motor though!
