While searching for a 3988, I continue to hear the opinion that the 3988's with larger engines have a sooting problem on the transom and cockpit relating to undersized air intake In addition, the comments also includes problems with exhaust entering through the salon door When I talk to actual owners, they don't have this problem

The 3988 storage is very tight for both a liveaboard and for longer cruises, as is the tankage ( 100 Gal water, 37Gal holding) -- especially with any guests Look for one that has most of your wishlist (especially the expensive ones like a bow thruster, decent FB enclosure, rear cockpit hardtop, diesel heat or AC, and has been well maintained

While changing my oil recently I was reminded again how great the engine access is on the 3988 With the Cummins 330 HP I can sit and easily reach the oil and fuel filters, fuel pumps, sea water impellers, air cleaners, after coolers, starters, hoses, etc on both sides of both engines

Does anyone know where on a 3988 (if you have the optional A C) the condensed water drain for the forward A C drains to? My salon A C has a dedicated thru-hull overboard but I can’t see where the forward A C drain goes
