Re: 308 Win, 208 AMax, RL17 Surprising to see that the velocity is a bit low for the amount of powder Just wondering if the bullet grains is too heavy for it For my 208 AMAX in 308 stick with 44 grains of RL15, I got about 2650 fps For my 243 stick using the 105 grains bullets (amax) at 40 4 grains of RL17, I get about the same velocity as 40 6 grains of N550, which is 3000 fps

Re: Hornady AMAX Match vs Federal Gold Medal Match Federal Gold Medal Match (FGMM) is the standard generally by which all other match ammo is judged It is pretty uniformally consistent and capable of producing extremely good accuracy if the rifle and the shooter are also capable $17 box of 20 is as cheap as you'll find it anywhere Actually $18 box + S H is the cheapest I have heard of

I haven´t used the amax in a 30 cal, just in a 7 rm Out of those two I´d go with the heavier Amax, it is a light construction bullet and with the 168 I´d say you run a bigger risk of an externally exploding bullet not penetrating enough The 162 7 cal has performed well in mt goats from close range out to 500 m Just try not to hit heavier bones at close range For me they´ve worked well

Hodgdon max is 46 0gr Varget under a 168 SMK 44 4gr Varget under a 168 Amax ELD is a clone load for factory 168gr TAP I ran as high as 45 7gr Varget under a 168 Amax ELD without pressure issues in factory 700 chambers FWIW: in a 20" AAC-SD, 44 4gr Varget gave me 2550fps and 45 7gr gave me 2640fps
