- cooking IN mylar bags - Survivalist Forum
I found some mylar bags that stand up and also have a ziploc top I plan to heat seal the bags above the ziploc top, then when it is time to cook it, add boiling water and close the ziploc top most of the way to retain the heat I think that in a PSHTF scenario the ease of making a meal by just adding water would be beneficial
- Can I Use My Foodsaver To Heat Seal Mylar Bags?
The heating bar in most home vacuum sealers don't get hot enough to seal mylar bags of the thickness you should be using More importantly, if you were thinking of vacuuming the bags in addition to just using the heating bar to seal, just don't even think about it First home food sealers can't create a strong enough vacuum
- Storing Mylar Bags In The Freezer - Survivalist Forum
Handled with care, you can cut the sealed end off a mylar bag and then reseal and reuse it several times I recycle LDS powdered milk 7 mm mylar bags for nut storage They're a convenient size to hold a pound or two each, and it's just the cost of an oxygen absorber per bag to give my nuts at least a 3-year shelf life in the freezer
- Do you use buckets AND mylar bags, or just buckets?
Mylar is So the mylar protects the food from O2 infiltration (and light), and the bucket protects the mylar from abrasion, pinholes, etc In essence, the bucket is not hermetically sealed Air can migrate right through the plastic This is why we put food in mylar with O2 absorbers Some put the bags in buckets, others use totes, etc
- Which Hair Straightener for Sealing Mylar - Survivalist Forum

- Storing Prepackaged goods in Mylar Bags? - Survivalist Forum
Can I portion repackage into zip-lock bags then place those bags into the 6 gallon Mylar bag with an oxygen absorber into my bucket? If that is okay, should I leave the ziplock slightly open or perforate the ziplock for O2 to be more easily absorbed? Same question for any prepackaged items such as rice pasta
