While it really isn't similar to ATC at all, train dispatching is a good gig while waiting for ATC UP, BNSF and CSX pay the most It can be difficult much like ATC to land a job at the class 1's so check into short line railroads as well They won't pay as well though With that being said, most people continue to do the job bc of the pay

ATC is only a small part of the job, and not even controlling in the strictest sense of the word That's why the FAA doesn't accept tactical experience I believe you get a CTO but the experience after doesn't really count for much in their eyes Are you in shape for special forces? How do you deal with an IFR arrival on a published instrument approach, who has to go around for whatever reason? Do you make them execute a missed approach and hand them off to departure or overlaying ATC, or do you tell them do go around and then keep them in the traffic pattern and sequence
