ATF+4 is backwards compatable with ATF+3 THe Cf is the same for the two fluids ATF+4 has better cold and hot temp performance and is more restant to oxidation You can use ATF+3 anyplace ATF+4 is called for I really do not see why you would want to do this though! ATF+4 is a really good fluid!!! What I like to do is order C+ATF from Redline

AMSOIL's ATF on the other hand is a very generic type that they "recommend" for everything, but the reality is its a hyperfied Dexron Mercon like fluid Its impossible for it to satisfy everything out there because some are thicker, some are thinner, some need plenty of friction modifiers, some call for none

But I'm loving the extra smoothness the ATF provides as you feather out the clutch when in gear Also, I'm no engineer but logic would make me guess there's nothing going on in a Harley primary in the way of plates, bearings, gears, etc that you don't see in cars trucks that use ATF for many times the OCI a Harley would see

I am stocking up for spring service on my JKU, have Amsoil 75w90, 75w140, ATF+4 for powersteering T case, but wondering if using Amsoil ATF in my trans (W5A-580 Auto) is worth the risk since it is a universal ATF? Or just buy synthetic ATF+4?

All the old Chrysler AT's used something called ATF, pretty much like what was used in the GM's of the period ATF morphed into Dextron, then Dextron II I have a Dodge car in storage that has "use dextron II " imprinted on the dipstick When they started putting lockup TC's in transmissions they had to come up with a different fluid

I have come to learn that Valvoline maxlife ATF is a compatible alternative fluid for the 8-speed or 9-speed I serviced my zf9 speed with Valvoline maxlife ATF and 10,000 miles later its shifting perfectly lol besides the 9-speed ZF being a little quirky Valvoline Max life ATF is
