The (relevant) Shimano hierarchy is Deore > Alivio > Acera > Altus > Tourney That usually gives a bit of an indicator on the performance of their parts For shifters, the difference will most likely be weight (but we're talking about a 50g part) and fancy features (2-way release, how many gears you can pull in one go)
