- Reducing Piston Slap Noise with Oil Choice | BobIsTheOilGuy
Is there any type of oil that helps reduce the piston slap noise? He's not looking for this car to run forever, even if it dies after 1 year he'd still come out ahead with the money he paid for it
- Quelling Piston Slap - Best oil - 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza . . .
To keep using a heavier weight oil and to minimize piston slap during warm-up during winter months the best thing to do is add an engine block heater for those cold nights
- Best oil for piston slapping Silverado? | BobIsTheOilGuy
The slap in the LSX engines is due the shorter piston skirt allows a slight piston "rock" in the cylinder As the cylinders coat with lube it pretty much goes away
- Piston Slap and EP Additives | BobIsTheOilGuy
Bearing in mind that the slap will never completely go away: Would piston slap in an aluminum motor be *helped* from a wear standpoint by going to and sticking with a very high moly like RL or similar? Or, Would staying with an oil with goodly HTHS be enough to reduce the noise AND limit the wear?
- Cold piston slap, thicker oil? | BobIsTheOilGuy
When I ran Syntec 10W30 in my 98 3000GT (that`s the oil that gave it the slap) it seemed like it was loosing hp I`m thinking the Syntec was too thin for that particular engine, making it lose some compression, because with the slightly thicker dino, the slap was gone and the power returned to the engine

C5 General - The famous 'piston slap' - possible solution found - My car is a 2004 Coupe, stock LS1, auto trans I bought it 18 months ago, and it has always had a VERY noticeable piston slapping type of noise while warming up The slapping noise would still be slightly noticeable until fully warmed up to 185 degrees
- Best oil viscosity for piston slap? - 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza . . .
My 99 Outback(103 thosand miles) has developed what I think is piston slap, knocking on startup, quiets down almost immediatly Older posts seem to be a bit confusing Some people suggest a lighter viscosity, other posts suggest heavier ones I prefer 10-40 for all season here in central Pa But
- Engine Oil and Piston Slap | Subaru Forester Owners Forum
Thicker oil will help reduce piston slap Stay away from oil additives and go with 0w40 or 5w40 first and if need be 5w50
