thanks for the tips everyone im now armed with lots of suggestions to interject if someone happens to mention Applebees! Im on my way out the door right now, but will surely be signing on via laptop tonight from the hotel since i am SOO hopelessly addicted to this forum!

Most places like Applebees who give a free desert give soft serve with a little chocolate sauce and sprinkles or some equivalent which costs a minimal amount material wise while independent restaurants spend much more time and money on their desert Our deserts are $6-8 for a reason

At the time I was working at Applebees in the mall, and one of the running jokes there (Applebees) was to send people to the basement So when I started working at Garretts and they tried to send me to the basement to get something -- I promptly let them know that I might be new to this place, but I wasn't new to serving

KT's tends to have it, big chains like O'Charley's and Applebees rarely do KT's has always been consistent in being good food It does have that "O'Charley's" atmosphere, a point the wife and I discussed to no end during our visit, but it feels a little more personal somehow Disappointing to find out there is no head chef, however

The owners (or at maybe previous owners of the local Applebees weren't 'great' owners One story had them telling area managers to contact all managers on vacation and tell them to return

While we eat at fast food on the Interstate sometimes, I'm a big user of Yelp Urbanspoon to find great local places while travelling and will go happily out of my way for great unique food We've found some real gems this way Never: Tumbleweed, White Castle, KFC, Applebees, Texas Roadhouse, Long Johns, O'Charleys, Olive Garden Deb Deb
