Avemco writes the insurance, AOPA just sells it poorly Some of my students have gotten some bad info from AOPA in regards to renters insurance, nothing but good things from AVEMCO

I'm an IFR pilot with ~200 hours under my belt I'm looking for renters insurance Nothing extravagant, just $100K hull $20K liability AOPA wants $950 year, and Avemco wants $400 Seems like a huge difference between the two Not sure why I went with Avemco - will I regret that?

AVEMCO was always more expensive but covered things that I didn't need like replacement plane cost while mine was being repaired AVEMCO has (had) a related company (National?) that provided lower cost coverage Avemco is owned by Houston Casualty Co HCC also owned US Specialties Insurance Company and HCC writes some insurance under their own

I am getting quotes for a 182, $50K hull, 1m 100K liability AOPA (AIG) quoted $950 and Avemco quoted $1775 This seems like a huge difference for what is listed as the same coverage Any thoughts on this?

Both AOPA and Avemco offer personal liability insurance for CFIs, but do not cover commercial operations So, according to both of them, I can be covered if I do some instructing as an individual, but if I want to form an LLC to do so (which the lawyer I spoke to said I should do) I may run into issues

Avemco said if they met the minimum requirements, they would be covered for hull insurance but not liability Do ferry pilots usually have their own non-owners policy for hull and liability? If I were to name them on my policy I would no longer get non-owned coverage I want with my policy, so don't think that is an option

I can't speak to other insurance companies or brokers, but after reading horror stories I called Avemco (who had my policy) a little early before my renewal came due and after answering some questions on the phone (updating my current hours experience), they gave me a quote that I accepted to renew the policy That was back in February
