- How to Reduce hiberfil. sys File Size - Microsoft Community
To ascertain the size of the System Volume Information folder in Windows 7 select Start, Control Panel, System, System Protection, click on Configure under Protection Settings What is the Current Usage figure? This figure often changes daily and can fluctuate up and down by significant amounts
- 100% Harddisk usage with build 14376, 14372, 14371 etc.
- Disable Windows Search, Superfetch - Adjust pagefile size manually - Disable Windows Defender (seems to help but as soon as a 3rd party AV scanner is installed, the problem re-occurred) - Un Install 3rd party AV software The only thing that seems to work is a clean install, but honestly, I don't want to go down that road (again)
- Windows created a temporary paging file on your computer
Here's the kicker The allocated size Windows creates on the C drives is ONLY 4Gb! 2Gb smaller than the recommended size When I adjust the min and max sizes to 6144 and 7168 megabytes and reboot Windows 7 essentially ignores my settings and creates the temp paging file on the C drive and issues this warning msg To Wit:
- My pagefile. sys is about 3. 136. 000 kB, - Microsoft Community
3 136 000 kB is about 3GB - that is a normal size page file Below is info for freeing up disk space (including reducing the page file), and making Windows run better
- Page File vs. Virtual Memory in Windows XP - Microsoft Community
There are a number of explanations as to why you cannot change the size of your pagefile After selecting your pagefile settings you need to click on Set, followed by Apply and restart your computer for the new setting to be applied
- Windows 7 fails to make permanent settings for PageFile,
Windows 7 fails to use the settings I set for the pagefile, despite these settings being saved ( on reboot and returning to the pagefile dialog, my settings are still set and win7 did make a pagefile on the one partition I set it too), instead Win7 continues to make the temporary pagefile

I've discovered how to disable " pagefile sys " and " hiberfil sys ", however I haven't been able to disable is " swapfile sys " Does anyone know how to stop the system from writing to this file and so that it uses physical memory instead?
- Having trouble: Adding RAM with a USB memory stick to a Windows XP . . .
Short form: I want to use a 16GB USB flash drive memory stick as RAM, but seem to be unable to use more than 4GB, due to the system requirements, limiting what I can enter for values (size) WHY??
