BNSF really has a grasp on the Powder River Basin along side Union Pacific, so u know, if they really wanted to NS would be a good market for the eastern coal market, as well as CSX Also aren't there many natrural gas fields in BOTH places (Virginia's and the Powder River basin)? Just a thought

From what I've heard, BNSF has been on a derating spree in 2006 with the following taking place: (source of the above is Robert C Del Grosso's 2006 BNSF annual) I suspect some of the above is due to emissions regulations - EPA tier 0 has different standards for 'line haul' vs 'switch' engines (switch being higher)
