BOW WOW （バウワウ）は1975年に芸能プロダクション小沢音楽事務所系列の アルト企画 のプロデューサー 上野義美 が自身の売れるロック・バンド構想に合うメンバーを集めて作ったロック・バンドである。 最初にアイドル・バンド、ドゥー・T・ドールのメンバーだった 斉藤光浩 と 新美俊宏 が選ばれた。 上野の構想は斎藤をリード・ボーカルに据えた BCR 系のアイドル・ロック・バンドだったが、リード・ギタリストに実力者を1人だけ入れてバンドの支柱とするアイデアもあった。 その役割を担うべく選ばれたのが島根出身で当時プロギタリストを目指してネム音楽院（現・ ヤマハ音楽院）に通っていた 山本恭司 である。
