My new Zumo XT is connected to Garmin Express and must be connected in some way to Basecamp because Basecamp downloaded the maps from the XT However, it doesn't show under "My Devices" or in Finder on the Mac Garmin says some GPS units (like the XT) may not be recognized and needs "special software", but doesn't say what that might be

Garmin Basecamp is usually the best editor for Garmin routes, and lets you easily change via points to shaping points It seems to be pretty common for a newer Mac to have trouble connecting with a Garmin device via USB Sometimes running the cable through a USB hub works, which somehow slows or syncs the connection

In Basecamp you can use existing Waypoints from Garmin's database, or you can create your own with the Waypoint flag tool Waypoints appear in the Zumo as 'Favourites' or 'Saved' - depending on whether your language is set to British or USA respectively Route points that were not created as Waypoints do not appear in 'Favourites'

In either case, Basecamp will give you a preview of the potentially joined tracks and what kind of noise is being inserted and whether or not you want to delete the original tracks
