My other Garmin GPS works fine and is "seen" by my Mac in Finder, connects on Garmin Express, and is seen on Basecamp I use the Garmin provided USB and an Apple USB to my MacBook Air My new Zumo XT is connected to Garmin Express and must be connected in some way to Basecamp because Basecamp downloaded the maps from the XT

All these replies are interesting; I just got off the phone with Garmin CS, and the rep told me that Garmin considers Mapsource to be better for older units -- like my Zumo 550 -- than Basecamp, which they created for newer units Personally I find them both tedious and will probably work w in Furkot Any thoughts welcome

Then I opened the kml file in Google Earth Actually I double clicked on the kml file and Windows just opened Google Earth and loaded the file in Then I used Google Earth to create a kmz file Basecamp can handle kmz files I used Basecamp to create a GPX file

When I start Basecamp after that it immediately tells me the newly installed map is locked I guess I don't understand why that is I have lifetime maps on my device If I connect my GPS to my computer, it recognizes it and the map that is installed So under Maps in Basecamp I have two entries for the same map

When in basecamp, maps load very slow by sections and going from one map (say a 24K to 100K) to another or changing scale can take a while to catch up Given the system seems to work well for me in everything else I do, I hate to buy a new system or totally rebuild what I have now

I think you have to open the gpx file in Basecamp first Something maybe to do with formatting the file in Basecamp by opening it first then rest of the steps: Connect the Garmin to your computer; Select the data to send To send one or more items, or a list: Select an item, list, or multiple items (using CTRL+Click or Shift+Click)

The main reason I learned this in Basecamp is that I have some old track files that are highly segmented because my old units (III+ and 60) were losing power intermittently due to bad battery contact I really wanted all the data in one track The Basecamp tool works perfect for this Also some guys post some highly segmented tracks that I want

In the past when creating routes in Basecamp I’ve run into the issue - as I modify the route based on input from other riders - of having to split it into multiple legs to avoid having any routes with 50 plus waypoints This year I’m just creating one route in Basecamp for Mac for a 16 day trip that has no defined daily end points
