My new Zumo XT is connected to Garmin Express and must be connected in some way to Basecamp because Basecamp downloaded the maps from the XT However, it doesn't show under "My Devices" or in Finder on the Mac Garmin says some GPS units (like the XT) may not be recognized and needs "special software", but doesn't say what that might be

Basecamp has at least one major advantage over Mapsource and that's that you don't need the actual maps on your computer If you attach a Nuvi, for example, to your PC and fire up BaseCamp it will read and use the maps that are preinstalled on the GPS

Garmin Basecamp is usually the best editor for Garmin routes, and lets you easily change via points to shaping points It seems to be pretty common for a newer Mac to have trouble connecting with a Garmin device via USB Sometimes running the cable through a USB hub works, which somehow slows or syncs the connection
