Mountain time and Mountain Standard time are technically two different time zones Mountain time follows daylight savings and the time changes twice a year like all the other time zones If you say Arizona is on "Mountain Time" without the standard qualifier you will be wrong half of the year Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah and New Mexico are all on Mountain time and observe daylight

I ask this because the largest cities Lubbock and Amarillo are only 70-80 miles away from New Mexico vs over 300 miles to the edge of the Texas Triangle with few people living between them Also according to this the panhandle has one of the largest differences between the solar time and the actual time zone in the US

The frustrating part is that Eastern solar time is almost 100 miles away from Indiana It is completely within the Central Time Zone as far as the sun is concerned The only reason any of Indiana observes Eastern is because Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky don’t place the line for Central Time correctly
