- A Psychiatry residency in San Francisco (CPMC)
CPMC- good didactics academics for a small program, great faculty, very manageable call workload Small residency (which has + -'s) and patient population skews more towards the insured The graduates are well-respected

I'm a 2nd year resident this year at CPMC, and I like our program alot I think it is a very congenial place to work, I think our residency director chooses people he feels will be collegial and supportive, because in a small program - four per class - that's important

CPMC is the other SF program and is much smaller (4 residents per year) and as a non-academic program is less competitive Historically it has been very psychodynamically oriented but is moving away from that (similarly, UCSF has also moved away from being as psychotherapy heavy)

The most unique thing about CPMC is the staggered start One resident starts 7 1, the next 11 1, and the next 3 1 The residents I talked to really liked this setup The program will pay you a PGY-2 salary to do research or even to go internationally and do missions work as long as you associate it with a research project

Other than that, CPMC and SCVMC are great programs CPMC has more of a private hospital feel, while SCVMC is county Objectively, I think the two places are quite comparable overall SCVMC has a better match list, but there are issues with the program (unstable leadership, scut work, questionable teaching quality)
