I just tried to install 20 updates and it got to 98% complete then suddenly started reverting changes
- Windows could not finish configuring the system error fixed for me.
If you take the vanilla WIM from the setup DVD and install it directly into MDT 2010 you will get the "configuring" error, but if you manually install from DVD or ISO it it will work, and the sysprepped and captured image after that 3

I usually do this by having separate send receive connectors that bypass the smart host for mutual TLS You can configure some 3rd party smart hosts to support TLS but in reality this is an unnecessary complication If you trust the other domain enough to configure mutual TLS with them it seems a bit pointless to then filter their mail for spam

I was never able to configure AAM in 2007 as well I have tried configuring it in my local dev box and even on production I have added the IP address of the server along with the hostname of the web app that was extended in the DNS as well When I hit the host name it points me to the local host of the port 80 of the server
