Hi William, I see the 1880 census record you found From it I suspect John S Crutchfield could have been in KY during the 1860 census because his son Edward E Crutchfield was born there about 1861 Because of Nannie being about 15 years younger than John S she could have been a 2nd marriage for John S If not a 2nd marriage son Edward E was born when Nannie was about age 16 I don't know

The Moravian Diaries also state that Joseph, Edmund, and Rachel Crutchfield were non-Indian and first cousins of James Vann, so Starr's story of a full-blood mother of them is inaccurate Rock Crutchfield is obviously the same person as Edmund Crutchfield, who died in 1828 (obituary printed in the Cherokee newspaper PHOENIX)
