Do I have to flash the EGS unit too? Or any other ECU? Do I have to clear DME adaptions after flashing? Is it necessary to code the DME and or EWS unit with empty man-file later with NCS Expert? Or the whole car? I have a K+DCAN cable and WinKFP 5 3 1 with SP-Daten v67 imported through BMW Coding Tool Are these WinKFP settings correct?

A DME would cost about $30 Only problem is, people know this and the on of the very first things that gets snagged is the DME So I constantly searched for a red label DME One day they put a VANOS M50 E34 on the lot I got there the very same day, but the DME was gone I also searched Craig's List I finally found one from a 93 325i and got
- E90 cranks but wont start, no communication with DME
Didn't sit right and pricey so towed back home to start investigating ourselves So problem seemed to be that with no communication with DME and no power at fuses 37,38,39 something is wrong in DME relay circuit up so worked through those circuits So we: Replaced battery to brand new BMW battery so that part should be ok

The ECU are correctly connecty and responding but cant code the EWS To do this i use the replacement procedure use by BMW, select DME and execute the operation but the engine didnt run stay with "DME data record ; Variant monitoring" So i swap the FME with the new key, engine start but i dont have the right VIN KM and nothing work

Could be a bad DME, bad wiring, missing supply or ground The answer below the codes states that the valvetronic motor killed the DME output but I don't think that's the case since there is another message stating that the position sensor isn't readable, which is not related to the motor issue Plus the DME outputs are well protected

Update: Decided to investigate the other LIN connected components that talk through the DME again, Unplugging the alternator showed no change in ground short or voltage at the IBS sensor connector, but unplugging the harness from the water pump got rid of the ground short and made the signal voltage at the IBS connector return from ~3V to ~12V with the alternator and IBS connected and water

EWS must have inentical ISN code with DME and after every start another rolling code is changed , when EWS and DME have identical ISN amd some missaligment ocurred you need to reset DME to accept exsiting EWS rolling code - in your case may be integration levels are different and this makes problem after some starts
