- How does the mechanism of a dual layer DVD read the data from both layers?
I read things like "When a dual layer DVD burner reads a dual layer disc, the read-laser readjusts its focus past the semi-transparent first layer of physical data, on to an additional layer of data " and "Reflectivity of both recording layers of a dual layer recordable disc is the similar
- Question about plastic bags and humidity - Physics Forums
the bags are not wet but i put them inside the cardboard box, the plastic bag and the cardboard box retain (safe) moisture and they sweat? inside the cardboard box I'm also storing dvd cases with discs and yes dvd discs your data storage is impaired by humidity manufacturers say so
- How does a CD act like a diffraction grating? - Physics Forums
Hi, I having been looking on the internet and other threads and can't seem to find any detailed information on how a CD acts like a diffraction grating What I understand: the CD has lots of little bumps which can split up light into its various colors These colors can interfere
- Is RealPlayer a Trojan or Trojan-like? - Physics Forums
VLC media player doesn't have any of the controversy and plays movies DVDs just fine and is also free My primary player is Windows Media Player Two reasons: it is much more convenient for multiple files and in use it gives the time for all tracks ahead of time
- Vinyl records, RPMs, and velocity. How does it work? - Physics Forums
FWIW, CDs and DVDs are recorded with the disk moving at a constant linear speed, and the rotation speed does change while the disk is playing Because the data is recorded digitaally, it is easy for the player to "measure" how fast it is playing the disk, and so the rotation speed of a CD is actuallly controlled by the disk that is being played
- Can Baby Einstein Tapes Benefit Adults Too? - Physics Forums
I bought the Baby Einstein dvds after a friend suggested it If they work or not? I can't say this for sure But they provide visual and auditory stimuli which can relax and enhance learning, so I guess there's no harm done
- Strange optical phenomenon: lighting a candle in front of a TV screen
It's an interference effect - if you have any of that stone-age technology known as CDs or DVDs lying around you'll see a similar rainbow effect from the silvery side of them It can come from multiple thin layers of mostly transparent material, or from materials with repeating patterns built into them Either could be the case for a TV screen
