Deferred basically means they want to compare you to their entire applicant pool In summary, you were good enough for the college, but they had so many amazing applicants they didn’t want to downright admit you until regular decision (hopefully) OP you also have to remember that being deferred at UNC as an OSS is downright awesome since OOS
