The spell, potion, and the eye are next to useless since there's basically a stealth check against it working Use AoE damage or water, anything that creates a surface, instead

Necroing for patch 3: This is patched, the eye now seems to cancel all debuffs from the operation except -1 to intelligence AND adds +1 to charisma (along with +1 wisdom, which cancels -1 from the operation) So the overall result is -1 intelligence +1 charisma now

Because Volo is more of a hubristic grandstander than a respectable surgeon, this operation is unsuccessful and leaves the player character permanently blind in their right eye

Wyll did not have any option to accept the operation, and had two dialogue options to refuse it saying he didn't have any eyes to spare This was in a playthrough where Wyll is not the player character, if that makes a difference
