Re: DTI question—student loans not yet in repayment With VA mortgages, if the payments are deferred or in forbearance for at least 12 months after closing then you don't have to include any payment in your DTI If they are in repayment or will be in repayment within 12 months after closing then the below steps apply:

For VA loans only, if you can have your student loan company defer your payments for 12 months past estimated loan closing date, those payments will be counted as $0 and will not at all be counted at all toward debt ratio

The loans are a significant amount of my credit, so I am a bit concerned about my score But I have a mortgage and 2 credit cards currently open, another paid mortgage (transferred), paid auto and installment loans, paid student loans, so hopefully paying these student loans won't hurt too much, if at all
