First time using Eurail Pass for touring this coming September, and already I'm coming up with questions that Seat 61 and the various European rail sites don't seem to address: 1) Is there a limit of seats and or sleepers allocated on each train for pass holders, as opposed to single ticket purchasers?

The Eurail pass includes all S-Bahn that are run by German Rail That might now include all; at one time there was a line in Berlin that was not included The Eurail pass does not include other conveyances run by the city metro districts (Vevkehrsverbünde, such as MVV) - U-Bahn, Strassenbahnen, or buses

We bought Eurail passes (3 country passes) for the last time in 2002 That was the last time our route cost less with the pass segments than point to point tickets for our particular far flung itinerary

The AM train to CDG directly from Colmar is full (checked without the Eurail passes and it's still full) Total to pay $466 65 +~$80 for taxis In our case I actually think the Eurail Pass saves about $40 and allows us to take the train from Colmar to the other towns along the wine route without paying extra Does that sound correct?

By the way, both Eurail and Trainline, being 3rd party resellers, charge a booking fee per ticket If you feel a need to compare, just pick a date a month or so from now and look at the price But compare apples to apples: the exact same train at the exact same time with the exact same connections

Many years ago I used to purchase Eurail passes in Italy The prices became prohibitive, however, and I think that the general view is that point to point tickets are much more economical As far as I am aware, using the pass to travel the distance from Leonardo da Vinci to anyplace in Venice wouldn't be feasible I don't believe the Vaporetti (canal buses) honor Eurail passes I could be
