Released within months of Fellini's La Dolce Vita and Antonioni's La Notte, Elio Petri's dazzling first feature The Assassin (L'Assassino) also stars Marcello Mastroianni, this time as dandyish thirtysomething antiques dealer Alfredo Martelli, arrested on suspicion of murdering his older, far wealthier lover Adalgisa (Micheline Presle) But as the increasingly Kafkaesque police investigation
- The Complete Jean Vigo Review :: Criterion Forum
Truffaut also talks about Fellini and one can successfully place absurdist elements into a film as Vigo did, though states that Fellini probably got a little too carried away with Juliet of the Spirits In the end it’s not a bad segment, but it’s one of the dryer features on here

The Bergman set is far and away the cleanest of the bunch, but I don't think the Fellini is all that bad given Criterion's previous insistence on not using English dubbing tracks (And of course there are things like the World Cinema Project that are great, but you probably mean the mega sets ) Did I miss some problem about the Varda set?
