Re: Garage distance separation from dwelling - Section R309 After listening to both sides of the discussion, my opinion is that in the case of detached garages, R309 trumps R302 R302 is a general requirement, while R309 is a specific requirement intended for garages and carports To interpret it otherwise leads to scenarios that do not make sense
