After taking this into account and speaking with some of my drummer friends who have experience with all different lines of Gretsch stuff, I decided to look into New Classics and Renown Maple series kits to have on the road Both seemed like nice kits but the Renown specs seemed really close to the USA Customs

Brooklyn are a current new Gretsch flavor sort of a Ludwig Classic maple done in Gretsch style Click to expand That definitely lines up with what I've learned The Brooklyns are cool but sometimes they sound really boxey to me and just kind of like mid-range bleh Other recordings sound great so maybe it comes down to tuning?

The Gretsch is nice, but it sounds like the DW ticks a lot more of the boxes you are looking for If you sell the snare you can buy the 10" rack tom with the money

I just purchased a 1960s Burgundy Sparkle Gretsch drum 3pc kit (28" 16" 13") In great condition, no cracks, bubbling, nothing The bass drum has no holes

The USA Maple series was introduced in the late 1990s at a time when Gretsch was operating at a pretty small volume (with less than 10 employees) and documentation, such as full line catalogs, was at a minimum What information is available would probably be in the form of price lists, which did get printed and updated by necessity
