My family and I would like to try and visit Neuschwanstein Castle in 2 days, though we do not have tickets I’ve read that even without tickets, you can walk some of the grounds We do have a rental car Any suggestions on how we could experience the castle without a ticket? We could do some mild

Neuschwanstein Castle was on my "must do" list It was exactly what I knew a visit to Bavaria would have to include I took a special day tour just to be able to get to it I was so disappointed once I went inside The tour is fairly quick as they shuttle you through and before you know it, you are down in the gift shop at the end of the tour

We chose to walk up to the castle (but didn't have a 4-year-old with us), LOVED the scenery (!), and enjoyed the tour I would happily visit Neuschwanstein again (the grounds outside), and the guided tour was worth doing once We went off-season and for us, the lack of crowds facilitated having a great experience

I largely share demag's impressions It's a whole lotta overpriced theme-park atmosphere, with high prices for the rushed and overcrowded walk-through of this late-19th-century mock-up (a residential palace with a fake castle exterior, in no way a real castle ) Nonetheless, day trips to N'stein from Munich are a surprising but very common

The village that Neuschwanstein Castle is in is charming plus you get to see the castle up high from the outside while walking around the village The tour of the castle was only 30 minutes long, not very interesting and not much was included in the tour, still, you might want to check it off your list of places to see

Neuschwanstein is iconic but not a real castle, or even a home King Ludwig lived in Linderhof is a different experience I'd take advantage of the chance to see both
