Do actual hard drives themselves need drivers? Or rather, do hard drive drivers have anything to do with performance-related issues features of the drive, or are they sort of in the same boat as INF's, and just for simple basic naming and connection? I have a newly connected Samsung 840 Pro

I've only heard the hard drive or mouse noise when I'm using onboard sound connected to some high sensitivity speakers headphones Try lowering the noise floor on the various amps IE, lower the Windows system volume and raise the volume on your amp, if that doesn't clean it up try going the other way, lower on your amp and higher in Windows

When a mechanical hard drive is powered down the heads reading data from the platters return to a "home" position Unless you smash the drive or console, you won't really damage the hard drive
