Nowadays, the quality katana's are traiditionally tempered to produce a hamon, however the lower quality katana's are simply acid-etched to bring out a hamon, however if you compare the two, the inferior quality hamon will in no way be as stunning as the traditionally clay-tempered hamon

Those swords are actually made by Hanwei (a company own and operated by Paul Chen) in China They use one of the best material : swedish powder steel I own the Tiger katana (Bugei doesn't have it anymore) and teh L6 Bainite by Howard Clark (HC makes the custom lines) The Tiger has seen a lot of action I cut heavy target at least once a week

While true that a Katana is only held together by a mekugi (or sometimes two or three) the nakago (tang) is usually quite long and robust Kabars have weak rat tail tangs that fail quite frequently so that isn't a very good example to use Glock and Randall, never heard of them and don't know anything about them I prefer the Chiruwa style knives
