Hello all! I will be visiting Osaka > Kyoto -> Tokyo for 10 days 9 nights in January 2024 The current plan is: 8 Jan - 12 Jan (Osaka) 12 Jan - 14 Jan (Kyoto) 14 Jan - 17 Jan Tokyo Specifically, I will be leaving reaching Kyoto around 12pm on 12th Jan and leaving Kyoto on the morning of 14th Jan

Re Kyoto - I hired an electric bike outside of the train station when I arrived there, and got around all over the city on that bike for the next 2 days I feel that 2-3 days in Kyoto is a reasonable amount of time to see most of the major things you'd want to see as a visiting tourist But ideally I would've wanted to stay 3-4 days

Note, in Kyoto Station there is a Sagawa counter but not a Yamato Transport (Black Cat) counter Sagawa is the #2 baggage delivery company in Japan You can also just search Google Maps for a nearby Yamato Transport or Sagawa office and take ship your luggage there but the counters in major stations are more likely to have English speaking

kyoto was boring for me, i hated it with a passion it wasn’t my type of city the things i saw were cool but i felt that i couldn’t spend time in it without going to some tourist attraction whereas in both osaka and tokyo i feel like i could happily spend so much time looking at the neighbourhoods and shops and streets without even going

We are at A Happy Pancake Kyoto and had the BEST soufflé pancakes for breakfast we have ever had Waited 45 mins and don’t regret a second of it!! There are also fantastic cocktails at Scotch and Branch We had great Mitarashi dango near the train station at Arashiyama, but it was a long wait and very crowded

Honestly I would pick whichever one is most central to what you want to do in Kyoto (FWIW we stayed near Sanjo Keihan, which meant we could walk to everything we cared about, except Fushimi Inari ) Reply reply

The buses to and from the further flung temples can all be gotten at Kyoto station Many travelers arrive in Kyoto by train and depart by train and use Kyoto as a base for day trips to Nara and Osaka Staying near Kyoto Station does seem to make the most sense to me
