  • Kapton Tape, how I use it and its advantages. - Badger Blade
I bought some Kapton tape from Amazon and have used it a few times It does seem more wear resistant than the 3M electrical tape and for those that are sensitive to bevel angle it definitely doesn't interfere as much in that department It is a bit trickier to work with because of how thin it is, but I put mine on a 3" tape dispenser and solved that pretty easily I still have 3M electrical
  • Kapton Tape. Any real Advantage? - Badger Blade
Yes I use tape That being said Is there any advantage to using the Kapton stuff rather than regular vinyl electrical tape? The vinyl tape can get goopy if using oil or Ballistol Makes a small mess Works well with water though Any thoughts?
  • Kapton - Badger Blade
Always remove the tape and dry the blade when you’re done for the session Kapton is rigid and can have wrinkles and a ‘cavity’ at the end if the tape extends beyond the end of the razor, even just a little, that can hold water Don’t ask me how I know this …
  • Tape or not (no, not the same old question) - Badger Blade
Which brand of electrical tape you use does not matter, they all work I use a layer of Kapton over a layer of electrical tape I do it because I can spend hours polishing a razor, why would I want to muck it up? You can use scotch tape, but it will wear off in 3-5 laps but can be used to increase an angle and make a micro bevel on a finished
  • Honing bevel with tape but no tape at finishing stone.
Tape the spine with Kapton, thinner and stronger than electrical, a 4,5, 8 or even a 12k can reset a bevel once the bevels are flat A 4-5k should only take about 40 or so laps to cut new bevels
  • Joseph Rodgers Star and Cross microtome. . purchased in error!
I used Kapton tape both sides, so as to put a miniscule bevel on the flat and use close to the original bevel angle on the front Made sure it was cutting arm hair at 1K before proceeding, popping hairs at 12K very nicely now
  • What did you hone today? | Page 702 | Badger Blade
Did two today Wade Butcher 6 8 and Red Imp 133 (Ludo) I used the same progression as yesterday - kill edge, kapton tape on spine, 3k Ouka bevel set, 5k Rika, 8k King Gold and then Jnats Kiita for the W B, asagi for the Red Imp I keep alternating the finishing Jnats to learn their differences and capabilities They're both excellent finishers HHT was outstanding, I'll see how the W B
  • Tape question - Badger Blade
I’m using 1 mil Kapton, the silicone adhesive doesn’t leave residue With electrical tape, which I occasionally use as needed, I think the adhesive transfers more easily when the tape gets old The adhesive seems to get kind of ‘gooey’ Try a fresh roll of tape from Lowe’s or Home Depot, their turnover should be high enough that the tape doesn’t get very old As Alfredo pointed out
