- Okoume vs Aquatek or hydrotek Meranti plywood
Looking at plywood for new boat I've used okoume in past, and was unhappy with grain pattern which looked like birch to me Really wanted the look of 1950 60's philippine mahogany plywood Does meranti plywood either (aquatek or hydrotek )have a look similar to philippine mahogany? From the few pictures I've found it might I understand it's heavier than okoume by 70%, how does it compare to

The price range is significant 6mm Meranti $73 for a 4x8 sheet Okoume is $110 A $37 difference, I know that Okoume is lighter but what other differences are there? I've always used Okoume ply for all my glued lapped boats Any pitfalls other than weight with the Okoume?

If you're going to build S G, and (the big IF) if the boat will be completely encapsulated in FG, then a good low-cost alternative would be bathroom-floor underlayment It's birch, 5 plies in the 1 4" thickness I buy (I use it for everything) and it's about 28 bucks a sheet

- Supplier of sapele marine ply in the Seattle area?
My kayak kit shipped with a gorgeous sapele deck, but I couldn't source sapele for the paddleboard without paying whatever CLC wants to ship it across the country - at least as much as two sheets of plywood, I imagine Crosscut and Edensaw have nice supplies of okoume but no marine sapele
