Kroil and an 'ease out' would be my tactic Warm the cylinder and set the end into a dish of kroil, about a 1 2 inch worth Let it sit for a day Get a cloth and set it under the cylinder when you pick it up from the dish Set the cylinder in a vice (protected of course) and work the 'ease out' into the opening

Vasoline will work, but I prefer a light coat of Kroil There is a multitude of good light weight oils out there that will do the job well CLP is ok to use, just wipe off any excess before you start loading (regardless of what you use) I break down my linkages once a year and wipe all the old grease out and then re-lube
