  • 73 455 Cam choice - Pontiac GTO Forum
Also a narrow LSA makes more power, but at a narrower RPM range , where as the same grind with a wider LSA (higher number) makes power across a wider rpm range My ( 389) 400 runs a CRANE cam with 454 in 480 ex lift 112 LSA (216in 228ex @ 050) Its a 9 3 to one engine It pulls hard right off idle to above 5500 rpm (forged rods of course)
  • Cam Recommendation from Butler | Pontiac GTO Forum
Solid roller cam from Bullet (from their recommendation based on what I was looking for) - 110 LSA, 251 257 degrees at 0 050, 0 620 net valve lift WITH 1 5:1 rockers
  • Pontiac 428 build | Page 8 | Pontiac GTO Forum
In general, most of our street Pontiac engines regardless of size will run stronger with a 112° or larger LSA than with something like Comp's cookie cutter 110° LSA off-the-shelf cams Another benefit of a wide LSA is better idle characteristics and being less prone to detonation
  • Cam Basics - Pontiac GTO Forum
LSA's of 110 to 114 are usually best for engines that will see street dutyas well as the occasional foray at the track A wider lsa improves idle quality by creating more intake manifold vacuum and allowing less reversion Intake Centerline: refers to the positon at which the cam is installed relative to the crankshaft
  • Reference: Camshafts - GTO Factory Specs | Page 2 | Pontiac GTO Forum
Wider LSA's also run smoother, pull more engine vacuum for power brakes, and have a broader power curve - and why Pontiac used these types So in my opinion, I think your best cam choice would be the 068 cam, which is the Mellings SPC-7 cam Butler also offers their series of the blue-printed RA Cams to include the 068, as well as custom grinds
  • Lifter Failure :( Need new Cam. . . Recommendations? - Pontiac GTO Forum
If you are willing to swap out your converter then a 60243 with a 228 235 duration also on a 112 LSA would be more rowdy I wouldn't step all the way up to the Crower 60919 RAIV clone unless I also went with the Rhoads variable duration lifters
  • What Cam should I use? | Pontiac GTO Forum
The key is more about Lobe Separation Angle (LSA) and Lobe Centerline (LC) with LS being your biggest concern LSA determines where in the RPM range maximum torque is developed in that a tighter LSA of 106-110 degrees will build torque sooner in the lower RPM range AND give you that rougher idle sound
  • 067 or 068 cam on stock Gto? - Pontiac GTO Forum
Didn't know about the specific Pontiac lifters I got mine from now defunct Indian Adventures The "068" cam is on a 116 lobe separation angle (LSA) I run the Summit 2801 cam with a little more lift on a 112 LSA
