As Jeanne (jwags) pointed out, Lantus doesn't always last a full 24 hours If you take it in the morning, then you risk it "wearing out" overnight, right when you need it to be combating DP Taking it before bed, or even at dinner, if it wears out, then at least it will wear out during the day, where you will be more aware and able to correct

Does anyone else experience burning and stinging when they inject their insulins? I currently use both Lantus and Novolin R At random times I experience painful burning or stinging when the insulin is being injected, but at other times I feel nothing I keep both of my in use vials of insulin

Lantus is a long term base insulin and reaches a peak after several hours Your 2 hour post meal number doesn't really play into using a basal insulin Check with your doctor When I was using insulin, my bedtime number was the indicator for a basal injection If my bedtime number was 80 or less, then I would not inject basal

I would not mess with the pens for Lantus delivery Lantus is too critical - and the pens are very prone to curious failures Syringe and Vial is the safest, most accurate delivery possible - and there is no reason not to use it for Lantus delivery Ideally, the pens came out (I thought) to make it more convenient for Bolus injections - it's handier to carry a pen around than the needle vial

I have noticed in the past fortnight that in the first hour (sometimes 2) after injecting Lantus, there is a rise in my blood sugars I'm currently injecting 14 units at 10pm and 14 units at 10am For example tonight, I ate supper at 5pm and injected my novo accordingly This all worked out

I visited my PCP today for my four month checkup and finally got his OK to back off my daily dose of Lantus with the goal of discontinuing it altogether I've been pushing for this for the past two visits I told my Dr that over the past year, I had either forgotten or deliberately skipped

I took Lantus and then Levemir for about 7 years combined, and never knew to split either, so I relied on one daily evening dose In retrospect, I probably wasn't getting full 24-hour coverage However, if the basal action started to fade somewhere in the afternoon, I was probably "covering" with either my lunch or dinner boluses to some degree
