I bought the traditions loading press and added a larger base Its chincy but cheap It seems to work ok with my larger base but I will not be surprised when it breaks It has however been working well for about a year of weekly use

The reason for the question is that there was absolutely no evidence in the 1990's, either written or artifact, for the boards prior to the 19th century as a loading tool Folks have muddled the question for years, and just because the board was claimed to be from the 18th century and North America, meant nothing

Also, as mentioned, you might want to try some round balls If you start with a 490 and see what thickness of patch is the thickest you can tolerate, for ease of loading, you will get an idea of how tight your bore is Watch some Black Powder Maniac videos and see the accuracy he gets with thin patches, no short starter, and no arm wrestling

Nice job, looks solid as an anvil Here's an idea my friend came up with and made for me as a birthday gift Been using it for years at the range It folds up into the range box and secures the pistol in transport The velcro strip he put in on the top keeps the gun nested in the barrel notch when transporting or loading

Patched round ball will shoot best using a liquid patch lube A grease lube just doesn't clean fouling , automatically on loading w a smooth bore Get someone to Mike the actual bore size minus the patch thickness equals the correct ball size This smoot bore will shoot one hole at 25 yds W the correct powder charges Been there done that

I have 2 steel 1858 Remingtons -- both 44 -- both Pietta's The "Owner's Manual" that came with them says use a load of FFFG 12-15 Grains (Weight? Volume? - manual does not say) I also have a paper cartridge kit (readily available) that includes a powder measure that delivers 24 Grains by
