If you are going to order from an online hatchery, make sure to find which one is located closest to you since they are being shipped We went with cackle hatchery as they were closest Ordered 6, they sent us 8 which can throw off plans if you have local ordinance you plan on following 1 ended up having severe case of crossbeak and passed away

Meyer hatchery is one of the closest hatcheries to me so I might order from them The only problem is that there's a minimum of 3 chicks per breed (I think) and if you order 3-14 chicks it's a $50 shipping fee You don't have to order 3 of the same breed, you just have to order 3 total But yes, it is a $50 shipping fee for a small order (3-14)

Meyer and MPC ship from the same facility (Meyer handles all the shipping for MPC, they share incubator space, and some of the breeding stock for the chicks is shared between them) so, unless you want sexed bantams or one of the designer mixed breeds that MPC sells like Ameriflowers, you could really order from either and it wouldn't matter

I chose Meyer because they're not too far from me in MD, but if I order chicks thru the mail again, I may opt for a different hatchery next time I just checked the brooder and the weakest chick is dead, so four dead of 15, which is pretty awful
