Dread is the "Metroid 5" of the 2D storyline (which Super Metroid is "Metroid 3" of) Prime is its own "canon" timeline etc , so doesn't require any kind of knowledge from the 2D games And probably little knowledge of the other Prime games, too Heck, the villain of this game is from the DS Prime game, which I would wager most Prime fans haven't even played lol
