Question I've only ever used Forge and Optifine and I don't actually know what the difference between Forge, neoforge, fabric, or quilt is I just want shaders and a few mods whats the best way to run shaders with a couple of mods right now?

Title essentially explains what I'm asking, I've started a little bit with Forge, but I'm not comfortable with it yet I would consider myself slightly knowledgeable about Forge, but not enough to make a mod with it I've heard a bit about NeoForge, and how it's easier and better to work with, but should I switch to learning it or stick with Forge? What about performance, developing a mod for it and the community? Which one is best? I'm also really confused how the last time I was into modding there was only forge, and that turned somehow into 4 different projects (Fabric, Quilt, Forge, NeoForge) What the hell happened!? And which one should I choose?
