Optus runs both front ends on the 3rd-party Akamai content delivery network (CDN) webmail-akamai optusnet com au is probably their just their main mapping to the CDN

Optus should allow the old option to deliver all mail to those users that have decent email clients and are happy to receive what optus mistakenly thinks is spam It's also a pain when on holiday as I use gmail to grab my optus mail, but it can't also grab the "spam" folder from optus

Or have you accidentally set up the webmail account to check itself if Optus offer the ability to check other mailboxes? (I've seen this done before on other webmails and it has the consequences you've described ) Maybe check with Optus if they automatically delete email from the inbox after a certain number of days or at a certain size

I do have windows outlook express – but it mirrors optus webmail How can I disconnect outlook from webmail so I can convert from using webmail to using outlook independent of webmails 500mb limit – and importantly still using my optus emaill accounts?

Optus servers don't support logins using secure password authentication however Optus appear to only give very basic support on this issue, the online tutorial for outlook express mentions nothing about secure connections
