I use Orbitz to compare car rental rates when I'm flying into a particular city on a specific date Then, once I figure out who has, what appears to be the least expensive rate, I go directly to that website (but visit a second or third specific car rental website, as well)

Booked an Orbitz flight on Delta for Feb 2018 Two days later, I notice a credit card charge for $21 99 I'm thinking 'What is this $21 99 charge from Orbitz on my credit card' as opposed to the cost of the flight? Orbitz is essentially a distribution channel for the airline--the contract of carriage still applies Then apparently the airlines are full of it, because that is what has happened to me, even as an elite, on more than one occasion with different carriers Therefore, I do not buy from third-party booking companies anymore

Although Orbitz does say it can charge a fee, it's not universal Again, a screenshot from Orbitz on a United flight: The price above is identical to what you'd pay when booked directly on the United website I'm just noting the above items in the interest of accurate information
