Dark Sun isn't problematic, WotC is just determined to make D D as family friendly as possible, and the harsh world of Athas is not family friendly in the least Cannibalism, genocide, dictatorship, ecological collapse, slavery, there is a lot of stuff in Dark Sun that would not mesh with WotC's current marketing schemes Which is fine with me

Converting old adventures isn't as scary as it seems, though Dark Sun AD D adventures were designed for characters that (1) didn't have infinite cantrips and (2) didn't scale so much as they went up in levels And, many writers of the time enjoyed "railroads" such as fights you cannot win So, they often need some fixing
